The South Kent Cross Country team captured another impressive team victory this week at the Marvelwood Invitational, braving cold, windy conditions atop Skiff Mountain to bring home the win.
“It was a good team win for us,” said Head Coach Father Steve Klots, reflecting on the effort. “We were missing one of our top runners, Ben S.’27, because of injury, but the rest of the team stepped up to fill in the void, Yurii N.’26 especially. He ran his best race of the year to come in 20th place.”
Leading the pack for South Kent was Ryan P. ’27, who finished just three seconds behind the top runner from Oakwood Friends. “In two previous meets, Ryan had lost to the Oakwood runner each time,” Father Klots noted. “This was his strongest performance yet, and a sign of how far he’s come this season.”
The team faced harsh weather conditions that tested their endurance. “It was warm when we left South Kent, and the cold was a shock when we got off the bus,” Father Klots said. “I was especially proud of how they adjusted and stayed focused.”
With only two races remaining, the Pumpkin Run in Kent this Sunday and the New England Championships at Kents Hill School in Maine, the Cardinals are maintaining strong momentum. “We’re looking forward to both challenges,” Father Klots added, confident in his team’s progress and determination.
